Location: Near New River Gorge National Park: Glen Jean WV

Shady Rest RV Park

Location: Near Shady Spring, WV  

Situated near the New River, 8 miles from the New River at Sandstone, and only 19 miles from the famous town of Hinton West Virginia. Also closely located to Little Beaver State Park, Grandview State Park and Bluestone State Park. This is the closest RV campground to Beckley. This campground specializes in outdoor recreation, such as fishing, kayaking, and hiking. This area is the southern part of the New River Gorge National Park. On the last Friday and Saturday night of each month, jam sessions are held, making it an ideal spot for those with a passion for music. The owners are enthusiasts of Bluegrass Music. Weekly and monthly rates are available.

A family-owned gem, Rifrafters Campground is beloved for its warm hospitality and proximity to top West Virginia landmarks. With cozy RV sites nestled in the woods, you’ll feel right at home surrounded by nature.  Only 2 miles from the New River Gorge National Park outdoor adventures are within easy reach. Open all year long for RV's and from April 1st to November 1st for tent sites and rustic cabin rentals.

Location: Surveyor WV (very close to Beckley)

Lake Stephens, covering over 2,300 acres, was developed on the site of an old camp set up by hunters and trappers around 1792, initiated by Stephen English, after whom it is named. This area now hosts a 272-acre pristine mountain lake ideal for boating, fishing, and swimming. Our facilities include a marina, concession stand, beach, boat ramp, Aqua Water Park, Sprinkler Splash Pad, RV and tent camping, and cabin rentals. Planning an event? We offer picnic shelters for rent as well as our Pavilion space, which is ideal for weddings and other large gatherings. The Pavilion features a gazebo, a full kitchen, and tables and chairs.

Location: Flatwoods, WV  

Flatwoods KOA is a full-service campground offering modern-day comforts with proximity to Beckley. With on-site amenities like a pool and event space, this RV park is a great option for travelers who enjoy a blend of outdoor leisure and convenience.  KOA campgrounds are very popular throughout the United States. This location is probably the furthest distance away from Beckley WV, but for KOA fans I thought I would mention it. I would consider this middle West Virginia.

Key Amenities:  

• Heated swimming pool for relaxation  

• Quick access to local shopping and dining  

• Pull-through RV sites for easy setup  

• Close to the Elk River, Sutton Lake Marina and Burnsville Lake

Costs:

From my research everything varies based on the size of RV, if you need a pull through site, and what you need (water, electric, etc.) One rate I did see was $69.99 a night. Check out their website to learn more, or use the official KOA app.

Whether you’re looking for downtime or a central location to explore southern West Virginia, Flatwoods KOA has you covered.  This would be a great location to stay when you are exploring the middle of the state. Not too far from Summersville with their amazing lake, Webster County and many other areas that would make for a perfect trip.

Bowels RV Village Located in Raleigh WV 4 minutes from Beckley WV.  A quiet location close to city life, but near a cute little creek. One of the best priced rentals lots at $40 a night, and $650 for monthly rentals.

Glade Creek Campground- part of the New River Gorge National Park (the southern end). RVs are welcome but there is not designated spots, its first come first serve, without camping fees

Pipestem Camping- located next door to Pipestem State Park in Neighboring Summers County, so it is very close to the Bluestone River, plus Hinton, the Greenbrier River and New River.

Pipestem Resort State Park- perfect for those that love everything outside. Open year round, and I highly recommend horseback riding.
