What is the British Colonial Resort?

Steeped in history and dripping with modern elegance, the British Colonial Resort is a Nassau landmark. Originally opened in 1924, this grand dame has hosted everyone from royalty to movie stars. It even made a splash in two James Bond films! After a major renovation, it has reopened its doors, blending its classic colonial charm with fresh, contemporary luxury. This is a Hilton Resort, so if you are a Hilton Rewards member and visiting Nassau this would be a great resort for you to stay at. But my review, its a day pass to the British Colonial Hilton in Nassau since I was visiting Nassau by cruise ship

Located just a short walk from the cruise port in downtown Nassau, its convenience is unmatched. You can literally see it from the ship! This prime location means you spend less time traveling and more time lounging, making it an ideal choice for a stress-free day trip.

The Day Pass Experience: What’s Included?

So, what does a day of bliss at the British Colonial actually get you? The day pass is your golden ticket to the resort’s fantastic amenities. You gain access to two stunning oceanfront swimming pools, a private white-sand beach, comfortable lounge chairs, and umbrellas to keep you cool.

The pass also typically includes a food and beverage credit, which is a fantastic perk. This allows you to sample the resort’s culinary offerings without constantly reaching for your wallet. Wi-Fi is also included, so you can make your friends back home jealous with envy-inducing Instagram stories in real-time.

The Pools: Your Oasis Awaits

The resort features two beautiful freshwater pools, each with its own distinct vibe. The larger, more active pool is a hub of gentle activity with serene ocean views. It’s perfect for a refreshing dip or simply relaxing on a lounger while watching the world go by.

The second pool offers a more tranquil, secluded atmosphere. It’s an ideal spot for those looking to escape into a good book or enjoy a quiet conversation. We loved having the choice between a social setting and a more private retreat. Both pools were impeccably clean and surrounded by plush lounge chairs, making it easy to find your perfect spot.

You don't need to bring a towel; they have their own towel service.

The Private Beach: Sun, Sand, and Serenity

Located in the heart of downtown Nassau, the private beach at the British Colonial is a true gem. While many downtown Nassau beaches can get crowded, this exclusive strip of sand offers a peaceful escape. The water is calm and crystal clear, perfect for wading or simply floating your cares away.

We were thrilled to find plenty of lounge chairs, beach chairs and umbrellas available right at the water's edge. The sand is soft and white, and the views of the harbor and nearby Paradise Island are simply breathtaking. Kayaks and paddleboards were also available, offering a fun way to get active on the water and explore the coastline from a different perspective.

Food, Drinks, and Service

A day pass is only as good as the food and drinks, right? The British Colonial did not disappoint. Using our food and beverage credit, we sampled a variety of delicious bites and tropical cocktails from the poolside bar and grill (The Red Pearl Grille). The menu featured a great mix of local Bahamian flavors and international favorites.

The conch fritters were an absolute must-try—perfectly crispy and packed with flavor. The cocktails were creative, refreshing, and exactly what you’d want on a warm island day. But what truly elevated the experience was the service. From the moment we arrived, the staff was incredibly welcoming, attentive, and genuinely happy to help. They made us feel like treasured guests, not just day-pass visitors.

Visitors who would like to pay extra could get a private cabana with soft cushions. The shade of a breezy poolside cabana is great during the summer day when the tropical sun is shining bright.

Is the British Colonial Nassau Day Pass Worth It?

In one word: absolutely! When you break down the cost, the value is exceptional. Considering the price of beach chair rentals, food, and drinks at public spots in Nassau, the day pass often works out to be a fantastic deal. The inclusion of a food and beverage credit is a game-changer that makes the package incredibly attractive.

Beyond the monetary value, you're paying for an experience. You get access to a clean, safe, and luxurious environment where you can truly relax. The convenience of being so close to the cruise port saves you precious time and transportation costs, maximizing your day in paradise. It is only a 10-to-15-minute walk from the cruise pier, past Senor Frogs, and Margaritaville Resort. For those of you that do not want to walk the distance, take a taxi. It will only cost you $9 and take a 10-minute drive. You will have complimentary wi-fi and plush lounge chairs to spend the day soaking up the sun. It’s a perfect way to experience the amenities of a high-end resort for a fraction of the cost of an overnight stay.

Adult prices are $79, children's prices (ages 3-12) is $38.50, and kids under 3 get in free. If you would like a cabana its $290 (with lunch included). and a day bed is $150 for the day (with 2 drinks included).

Tips for Your Day Pass Adventure

Ready to book your day of fun? Here are a few tips to make the most of your visit to the British Colonial Resort:

  • Book in Advance: Day passes can sell out, especially during peak cruise season. Book online with a credit card ahead of time to secure your spot.

  • Arrive Early: Get there as soon as you can to claim a prime lounge chair by the pool or on the beach. This also gives you the maximum amount of time to enjoy everything the resort has to offer. Day Pass time is 9AM to 5PM. If arriving from cruise ships, you will see other ships in dock and many people from those ships could have bought a day pass. So it is best to arrive early.

  • Pack Smart: Bring sunscreen, a hat, sunglasses, a good book, and a portable charger for your phone. The resort provides towels, so you can leave yours on the ship.

  • Walk from the Port: If you're arriving by cruise ship, enjoy the easy 10-15 minute walk. It’s a great way to see a bit of downtown Nassau along the way.

  • Explore the Grounds: Don’t just stick to one spot! Wander through the beautiful colonial-style property and take in the historic architecture.
