Best Pizza in Charlotte North Carolina for 2024!

Updated: Sep 27

Charlotte North Carolina is known for its diverse culinary scene, and when it comes to pizza, there are several fantastic options to choose from. There is nothing better than a quality pizza in my eyes, and no I am not talking about the generic chain pizza places like Papa Johns, or Dominos. I am talking quality pizza, with fresh ingredients like fresh mozzarella or fresh garlic. These pizza spots are all either locally owned or a smaller chain that might only be in a few locations.

As the city of Charlotte began to grow, especially after the late 1980s, so did its pizza selection. From New York Style, Midwestern, and New Jersey Styles, you can always find an amazing pizza in the area. Until moving here, I never knew of the Virginia Style of Pizza, and sure enough Charlotte North Carolina has a Virginia Style shop too. With that being said, here is my list of the best pizza places in Charlotte NC

Pizza
  • Located in the heart of Charlotte North Carolina, Benny Pennello's is famous for its massive slices. They are located in several states, but they have a focus on the Virginia Slice.

  • Not a huge variety of toppings but has generous portion size, their pizzas are sure to satisfy any pizza lover's cravings. It is a really good pizza.

  • By far the most affordable, best tasting pizza I have ever had.

  • In a great location, the Market on 7th.

  • Great New Jersey style Pizzas, I have enjoyed their Cheese Pizza, and Buffalo Chicken Pizza

  • Hot Honey Pizzas are amazing, but they also have specialty pizzas like Eggplant Pizza.

  • Check out their Garlic Knots, Pizza Knots, or even their Calzones.

Pizza
  • An authentic Italian Restaurant with more than just pizza on their menu. Check out their dessert too!!!!! Mama Ricotta's can be a little bit pricey, but so worth it. This is more of an upscale Italian restaurant compared to a pizza place.

  • Neapolitan Pizzas- Thin crust, cooked in a woodfired oven till cheese is nice and bubbly and crust is crisp. When you are in the mood for thin crust this is the best. Mama Ricotta's has a delicious pizza.

  • Located in Park Towne Village on Woodlawn Road, this place does not disappoint.

  • More than 30 toppings to choose from, try the Italian Sausage.

  • Midwestern Style of Pizza: A crispy bottom and fluffy middle.

  • A variety of specialty pizzas, where a 14 inch will cost less than $21.

Pizza
  • Inizio Pizza Napoletana specializes in Neapolitan-style pizzas made with fresh ingredients and a dough that undergoes a 48-hour fermentation process. This a favorite pizza spot for locals.

  • Their wood-fired pies have a thin, chewy crust and are topped with high-quality ingredients for an authentic taste. The have more than just the Neapolitan style. Try the Raffaele and save room for a Nutella cannoli, it is the best cannoli I have ever had. In the fall they have a pumpkin Cannoli, so next time order one. This is a seasonal item, but I am sure they will have some sort of cannoli to try if they do not have this one.

  • A hot spot in uptown area where you can order for pickup. They are opening their new dining room soon for in restaurant dinning.

  • They are creative with their toppings, including Kale and Arugula.

  • Hours make it rough, as they are only open 4PM to 8PM Wednesday-Saturday. This might be due to the remodel they are doing.

Pizza
  • Pure Pizza is a popular spot in Charlotte North Carolina that focuses on organic and locally sourced ingredients. I love their tomato sauce.

  • They offer a range of creative and delicious pizzas, including vegan and gluten-free options, ensuring there's something for everyone, I love sitting outside at their picnic tables.

  • Pizza is not the only thing they have on the menu. Pasta, Calzones and plenty of appetizers. Check out their toasted ravioli. Also get a cannoli for dessert.

  • Their Specialty pizzas are great. Check out the Milano Pizza with Artichoke Hearts, Prosciutto, Mushrooms and black olives- it is amazing.

  • There is not any in house dining options, it is all delivery or pickup.

  • Hours vary 11AM to 2PM, then open back up at 5PM till 9PM usually, check their website to make sure as times change between pick-up and delivery option and on certain days of the week, they might be open till 10 PM.

  • Even with their odd hours and no dining room area Lusia Pizza is known for their great traditional pies.

Pizza
  • Known for their real authentic Italian pizzas in Charlotte North Carolina, but they have a variety of items on their menu. This is the best pizzeria by many locals.

  • Classic Pizzas, and White Pizzas are available (Pear Gorgonzola White Pizza is the best white pizza I have ever had)

  • This place is a little expensive, but their menu is massive, and pizzas are so fancy.

  • For the Fall try their Butternut Squash Pizza.

Pizza
  • Hawthorne's is a beloved pizza joint that serves up classic New York-style pies.

  • Their pizzas are known for their thin, foldable crusts and generous toppings, making them a go-to choice for pizza enthusiasts. Plus, other items on the menu, like Crispy Cajun Shrimp appetizer it is the best.

  • Several locations in North Carolina, beyond Charlotte.

  • With 2 locations in the Charlotte area this is the perfect place to visit with kids. Its not to fancy and they have a great kids menu.

  • Not only Pizza, but pasta, buffalo wings, sandwiches, many appetizers and sides to choose from on their menu.

  • They also do catering for birthday parties or anything you might need.
