Wilson, in eastern North Carolina, is the perfect location in NC for locals or travelers alike. With easy access to the State Capital city Raleigh to the West, Goldsboro to the south, Rocky Mount to the North and Greenville to the east. Also, Wilson is just 2.5 hours away from Cape Hatteras, and about the same amount of time to southern beaches in NC. If you look at a map you can tell that Pamlico Sound is all that is between you and the beach, so you will have to go northeast or southeast to get around Pamlico Sound to get to the beach.


For those of you who are road trippers like me, and just like to explore. Wilson is a great place to spend some time. Wilson's rich history is etched into every corner of its historic downtown and the local history museum.   • Vollis Simpson Whirligig Park is the best place to visit for those artsy outdoor enthusiasts. Looking at the art sculptures that move in the wind. Located in historic downtown Wilson, and a community park where the art was made with recycled materials. This is a must see place in Wilson. If interested check out the annual whirligig festival, fun and food trucks with whirligig’s, who could ask for more. Located right beside the Whirligig Park is Iconostar Art, an art gallery another must see if you are an art fan.

Did you know there are 40 parks in the Wilson area, some of which I mentioned earlier but I have to now include Lake Wilson, and Wiggins Mill which is perfect for Kayaking or fishing in a beautiful place. Be sure to bring your own Kayak, as the City of Wilson does not have any kayak rental companies. These 2 lakes are a great experience within the city limits.


  • Adventure seekers looking to add a dash of excitement to their Wilson exploration should not miss out on kayaking or canoeing down the Tar River. It's an exhilarating way to experience the natural beauty of the area, with opportunities to spot wildlife and enjoy moments of peaceful solitude. The Tar River and Tar River Reservoir offers great fishing in the Rocky Mount area, a short drive away from Wilson NC.


  • Buckhorn Reservoir is located 20 minutes away but still in Wilson County and offers more water activities if you are wanting to use larger boats or water tubing activities. They also have bicycle trails and horse trails, plus so much more. Picnic tables and shelters and even grills that can be used.


  • The Wilson Arts Center is a vibrant hub for creativity, offering exhibitions, workshops, and performances. It's the best place, where the arts come alive, touching hearts and stirring souls.   • Fleming Stadium, home to the Wilson Tobs baseball team, has been around since the 1950’s. Located nearby is also the North Carolina Baseball Museum. There are many community events held here, including a BBQ festival. Everybody knows that NC BBQ is one of the best in the United States (following SC in my opinion. lol)


  • There are a couple waterparks located within an easy driving distance. Lions Water Adventure or West Water Park in Kinston NC about 40 minutes away from Wilson. For those who find their bliss by the water, these water parks are your go-to destinations. The waterparks promise splashes of fun for the whole family, with thrilling slides and refreshing pools.


  • Freeman Round House is an African American History Museum dedicated to local art and history of the area, trying to preserve the cultures of the area. This is an excellent place for learning about the recent history of Wilson.


  • Located in Bailey NC, a short drive away from Wilson is a cute little museum unlike anything you have seen before. The Country Doctor museum. Learn about old timey doctor's treatments and surgeries. Plus, there is an herb garden on premises.


  • Barton College, The Kennedy Theatre located at the college is a great spot to see performance arts and sometimes they are free. Check out their website to learn more upcoming performances.
