Looking for the perfect escape where white sandy beaches meet impeccable hospitality? Welcome to Courtyard Isla Verde Beach Resort, a gem on the coastline of Puerto Rico. My recent stay at this tropical paradise was nothing short of memorable, and I’m here to take you through every blissful moment, and important details from the vibrant sunsets over the Isla Verde Beach to indulging in the finest island cuisine. If you’re a travel enthusiast, beach lover, or planning your next family adventure, get ready to add this resort to your Puerto Rico vacation bucket list!
Discovering Paradise in Puerto Rico
Puerto Rico is often dubbed "La Isla del Encanto"—The Island of Enchantment—and it doesn’t take long to see why. Set along the powdery sands of Isla Verde Beach, the Courtyard Isla Verde Beach Resort offers an unparalleled gateway to Puerto Rican beauty and culture. Isla Verde is the perfect location, close enough to San Juan, but also far enough away to not feel the crowds of downtown San Juan.
Upon my arrival, I was greeted by the rhythm of waves crashing against the shore and the warm smiles of the resort staff. The openness of the lobby, overlooking the turquoise waters of Isla Verde Beach, instantly put me in vacation mode. After a seamless check-in process, I was handed a deliciously tropical welcome drink and realized that this resort isn’t just a place to stay—it’s an immersive Puerto Rican experience right from the start.
The resort offers express check-in (but still best to avoid busy check in times if possible), free wifi, a fitness center and casino for those that are interested. Check-out time and check in time are similar to all Marriott hotels but if you arrive early, they might be able to accommodate. Just ask the front desk staff when checking in. I arrived at 1 PM, and asked if I could check in early as regular check in time was at 4 PM. Luckily, they were able to get me into the room early. Which was great since when I arrived, I walked the beach and got my blue jeans wet when checking out the resort.
Luxurious Accommodations
The moment I entered my room, I knew I’d hit the vacation jackpot. My suite featured breathtaking ocean views with its floor-to-ceiling windows that lead to the balcony, a plush king-size bed, and a chic, contemporary design that blended elegance with laid-back island vibes.
Room features with every detail seemed carefully crafted, from the high-thread-count sheets to the spa-like private bathroom with premium amenities, and complimentary toiletries. But the real star was the private balcony—with a view of the Atlantic Ocean, it quickly became my favorite spot to savor my morning coffee and watch the sunsets paint the sky with vibrant oranges and purples. If comfort, style, and serenity are on your vacation wish list, this resort delivers it all. Of course there are flat-screen tvs, and air conditioning units. You will appreciate the air conditioner due to the high humidity in Puerto Rico. Some rooms are ocean front, and they have a spacious suite with a spa tub and a full kitchen also. They even offer room service to any room in the hotel. There is daily housekeeping for your room at the resort.
Pick the room type that fits your budget, I stayed in one with partial ocean views, but honestly this side view was perfect due to its angle. As you can tell by the picture. My room was on a high floor, which I love, so if you can ask for the higher floors, the view of the ocean is perfect.
Indulging in Island Cuisine
There are a lot of restaurants at the hotel. You can eat breakfast, lunch or dinner and never leave the resort if you like, but no stay is complete without indulging in local flavors, and dining at the resort was a feast for both the palate and the soul. Café Tropical, the resort's main dining spot, offered a mix of classic dishes and Puerto Rican cuisine.
Start your day with their Mofongo Benedict (trust me, it’s a game-changer) and wind down with fresh-caught seafood paired with a refreshing Piña Colada. The grilled mahi-mahi and tostones were other standouts that transported me straight to the roots of Puerto Rican gastronomy.
Don’t miss Picante Lounge, where live music pairs perfectly with exotic cocktails. It’s the ideal spot for a lively night out without leaving the comfort of the resort.
The Sirena Restaurant is great option for a romantic dinner with beach views. This is a beachfront dining experience. Don't forget about the coffee bar with some pastries located inside the resort.
Convenient Distance to Top Sights
One of the Courtyard Isla Verde Beach Resort’s biggest perks is its fantastic location.
Old San Juan (20-minute drive): Step back in time as you explore the cobblestone streets, colorful colonial architecture, and iconic sites such as El Morro and La Fortaleza.
Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport (10-minute drive): No long commutes! Your vacation starts seconds after you land. This a a great location, and honestly my taxi ride was more like 5 minutes from Airport to hotel.
With its prime accessibility, the resort makes it easy to balance relaxation and adventure.
Unwinding and Activities
Imagine starting your day with the sun rising over the ocean, your feet in the soft sand, and the soothing sound of waves. The private stretch of Isla Verde Beach was simply heavenly. Beach chairs and umbrellas are complimentary, making it perfect for guilt-free lounging.
For pool enthusiasts, the stunning freshwater pool bordered by lush palm trees is the place to be. Whether you prefer lounging poolside or enjoying a refreshing dip, the ambiance here exudes tranquility.
Feeling active? The resort’s recreational offerings include beach volleyball and jet ski rentals, as well as nearby snorkeling adventures, ensuring there’s something for everyone.
My experience was amazing, the beach area is perfect, and drinks from the pool bars are delivered to the beach for a fee. The outdoor pool is large with a swim up bar. One thing I was shocked about, I did not see a hot tub in the pool area, but its Puerto Rico, its hot enough outside, but there is one., i just overlooked it. The hotel gym was not used on my trip also.
Family-Friendly Features
Traveling with kids? You’re in for a stress-free vacation. Courtyard Isla Verde Beach Resort goes above and beyond with family-oriented amenities. From spacious suites to a dedicated kids’ splash pool, the property caters perfectly to families of all sizes.
The staff even hosts activities like beach games and arts & crafts sessions to keep the little ones entertained while parents enjoy some downtime. It’s evident that the resort strives to create unforgettable memories for every family member. Hotel guests love the buffet breakfasts, but they do cost $21.95 per person.

Other Resorts I’d Recommend in Isla Verde
While Courtyard Marriott Isla Verde Beach Resort was my personal favorite, there are other luxurious options nearby that deserve a mention. These are the closest hotels in Isla Verde.
Fairmont El San Juan Hotel: Perfect for those seeking a more upscale, vibrant nightlife scene.
The Ritz-Carlton San Juan (currently under renovation but highly anticipated): A blend of timeless elegance and premium-quality service.
AC Hotel by Marriott San Juan Condado: A sleek, modern choice for urban explorers.
If you can, make time to tour the different resorts in Isla Verde—they each bring something unique to the table!
My actual review.
I love this place. I was only visiting for 4 days, and though this resort is slightly more expensive than I would typically stay at, it was well worth it. I ate at the pool side bar, and the main restaurant that overlooked the very nice beach, Spend time in the Hammocks near the beach or lounge in the beach chairs in the sand. The rest of the time I was eating in San Juan or at an Authentic restaurant in Isla Verde.
I loved spending my days at the beach and the pool, then head inside and clean up for an afternoon or evening trip to San Juan, or to just hang at hotel and have fun in the casino. Unfortunately, I never won big on the slot machines. I never visited the fitness room for some exercise, but I did take a glance to see it and its nice.
I highly recommend this hotel for family vacations.
The only thing that is disappointing about the resort is something that cannot be changed with this style of hotel. A resort fee. I hate resort fees, but it seems like every hotel you stay at anymore that has pools and restaurants are going to charge you a resort fee. So, I felt like this important detail could not be missed when talking about the hotel.
If you are not familiar Courtyard is a part of the Marriott family, so Marriott San Juan Isla Verde is part of the Bon Voyage program, so if you are member, rack up those points to help pay for a stay at a Marriott hotel, or this Marriott hotel, as it is more expensive than most.
This is not a new property, and some people in reviews say the rooms are dated. But in my opinion, you will not be disappointed.

Looks like you had an amazing time! Freezing in the UK, I’d love me some of that ocean view right now!
This resort should sponsor your next visit! You did an excellent job giving an honest and favorable review, so much so that I want to escape winter in Kansas and fly to RP right now.
I love staying in rooms with ocean views and this looks like the perfect beach resort. The name "Island of Enchantment" is so appropriate too!
This looks like an amazing stay in Puerto Rico. I always choose an ocean view room when I am at a beach resort, and this one looks great!
Isla Verde sounds like an ideal place to stay to be close enough to San Juan but more peaceful. We've stayed in town and also in Fajardo on past trips, but we'll need to try this out on a next visit.
